How to Pack for a Summer Trip to Taiwan

The weather in Taiwan is rather unpredictable due to geological reasons. Sometimes it would drizzle a bit, other times the rain may pour on for hours or even days. Therefore, it would be safe to pack an umbrella or a raincoat before your departure.

​​ Since Taiwan is a subtropical island, there are mosquitoes. Their activities peak ​​during the summer time (roughly around June to September), so be sure to pack​​ light colored clothes during summer. For people who love to hike, be sure to pack a pair of trousers.

Summer time is also the typhoon season, so be sure to check the weather reports. Public transportation and places may be shut down due to the bad weather.

Summer in Taiwan

Taiwan is humid and hot during summer and fall. It is vital to stay hydrated and protect yourselves from the sun. This is especially true for the Southern parts, though not as humid as the Northern parts of the island. So pack yourselves a bottle and sunscreen/ sunblock of your choice! At public places, train stations and libraries, you can refill your bottle for free. Faucets are not an ideal place to refill your bottle. Drinking fountains, on the other hand, are checked and the water is safe to drink from. At these places, however, refill in bulk is not acceptable.

Surfing in Taiwan

Since Taiwan is surrounded by waters, surfing is a popular sport. So if you are a fan don't forget to pack your gears. However, walking in juts the swimwear is not recommended. Some people will be annoyed by it. Be sure to have some garment to put over the swimwear once you are out of the waters.

 

In short, be sure to pack for these things: 1) an umbrella or a raincoat 2) light colored clothes 3) a pair of trousers

4) an empty bottle to refill your water with 5) any protection from the sun (hat, sunscreen, sunblock, etc.)

6) surfing or swimming gear

7) garment to put over swimwear
