How to Find Vegan Dishes in Taiwan
In my last article, I said that we offer vegan dishes. However, for non-Mandarin speakers, it may be hard to spot one. Not to worry, I will be sharing 2 ways of how to find one.
1) Knowing the Chinese character for vegan
This is the character for vegan.
The pronunciation is /sù/.
Any restaurant that offers vegetarian or vegan dishes will include this letter or at least show it somewhere you can see.
If you don't mind going to a non-vegetarian restaurant, they might offer vegan or vegetarian dishes. This is also the character to look for when you want to order one.
In my next blog, I will be showing you how to distinguish between plant based, vegan and religious vegetarian.
2) Go somewhere near a temple
If you are not sure they have vegan dishes, it would be safe to seek one that is near a temple and has the sign that includes the character sù on their sign. But depending on the owner's beliefs they may be vegan or vegetarian.
The downside is they would have pictures of monks or play Buddhism music. If this is something against your religious beliefs, then they might not be a good place for you to grab a meal.
Happy travel
