3 Ways to Find Your Way Around Taipei

Getting lost may be part of your adventure, but it can also chip away some of your precious time in the country. Here are three easy ways to find your way around the city of Taipei.

1)Go on to the e-bus website

There are a lot of things on the e-bus website. This webpage is built to help non-Mandarin speakers find their way in Taipei.

Features of the website

1) By clicking the trip planner option, you can plan your trip by using the e-bus website. Transfers (metro and other options) are included.

2)Getting the real time feedback on how long to wait for a bus (click the Real time info.)

3)Find the nearest bus stops (under the option of Real time info.)

2)Install Apps

There are two apps developed to help guiding non-Mandarin speakers to find their way in Taipei.

They are Go! Taipei Metro and Fun Travel In Taipei

Go! Taipei Metro

The app can

1)Calculate the ticket price

With this app you can calculate the fee for taking the metro. If you do have an IC card (Easy Card or iPass, etc.) it can also show how much the trip would cost.

2)Calculate your travel time

3)Specific direction of the exit and facilities at each station (under the section of station information)

4)Estimate the arrival time (under the section of station information)

Fun Travel In Taipei

This app can help you with

1) Give you options for where to go to for your next stop.

2) Real time bus tracking in English (internet connection needed)

3) Hot lines for hiring a taxi and taxi fare regulations

4) Real-time tracking of how many U-bikes at each station

and much more

For those who wishes to travel beyond Taipei and do not have access to WiFi on the island, then here is the site where you can download all the maps to cities in Taiwan.

3)Finding someone to help

Not everyone speaks English in Taiwan so if you're lost in Taiwan here are a few things to look for to find someone that does speak English.

b) Go to a Starbucks and ask the clerks

c) People that are under the age of 40 may be able to speak a little bit of English. English is not taught in Taiwan while the elders were in school, so they are not the ideal people to ask for directions if you do not speak Mandarin. If you do speak a bit of Mandarin then they would be the top choices when it comes to help.
